I love photography and I love that through it I am able to do two things I think are important.
Firstly, I support businesses with their development, marketing, image and presence, and in doing so, hopefully their success, and, secondly, I help individuals create tangible memories of moments in their lives for themselves and posterity.
These are very positive and fulfilling things to me.
Homes & Interiors
Homes and interiors are wonderfully challenging to shoot. They are all so different. Shacks to mansions. Overgrown jungles to manicured perfection. ‘Bomb just gone off chic’ to stylised opulence. Lighting is always tricky; ambient light of lack thereof, interior lighting is it tungsten or florescent, to ‘flash’ or ‘not to flash’, if flash how much, how to avoid reflections and shadows, the list goes on. On top of this you don’t have long to assess the property before you start shooting. It stands to reason then that this is a very rewarding and important area of photography.
Photographing people can be both the most challenging and rewarding experience. Challenging because you know how important it is to capture some of the essence of the subject whilst, ideally exceeding their expectations. As a rule the shots I end up liking the most are impromptu, fleeting moments caught. Furthermore, to complement this, I find with processing, less is more.
Weddings & Occasions
What can you say about wedding photography. It’s tough. Pressure is on. It’s frantic, emotional, a lot at stake. I feel before a wedding the same I use to feel before a football game; nervous and full of adrenaline. Exciting times. Like sport, wedding photography needs training and planning. As with sport too, when you’ve done well the feeling is enormous. Knowing you have successfully captured, what is for the couple and their families, one of their most important days is truly satisfying.
Lucky to live on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, constantly changing and always fascinating. Shooting places and the surrounding area is a real pleasure and a constant reminder to me to never take it for granted. I don’t think there are too many places on the planet with the amazing combination of bay and ocean environments a stones throw from each other, and, existing alongside vibrant communities.
